Wax fabrics of Africa

You can see diverse patterns on the fabrics which are made in a great way. The handmade fabrics are rare and the market is filled up with cheap designs. Fortunately, there are still some African cloth makers who design these fabrics through old methods. One of the best methods out of them was using wax to print designs on the cloth piece. This method is famous and rigorously used in the West African nations like Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana etc. Wax is applied on the cloth to resist the dye colors and gives them beautiful patterns. You can find these beautiful fabrics in genuine African fabrics shop.

The name of the wax resists method is Batik. Batik was originally found in Indonesia and later brought to the shore of West Africa by Dutch people. Since then, Batik becomes famous in the whole western region. Paraffin wax and bees wax are used in this method. Bees wax stick to the fabric and at the same time Paraffin wax allows some cracking which defines the characteristics of Batik. The cloth is either dipped or painted with dye afterward. The color is absorbed by the cloth and beautiful patterns are made at wax areas.
